Crown Chakra

This center is a vortex of spinning violet-white light at the crown of the head extending upward toward to heavens. Sometimes called the thousand-petaled lotus, this is the place of our connection to the Divine. Physically it governs the cerebral cortex and the central nervous system. Malfunctions might show up as depression, apathy, confusion and a lack of spiritual connection.

This is where we have access to a consciousness which transcends our everyday mind and awareness. It is where we "know" the truth of who we are, which ultimately is one with the divine, with God. At this level of awareness we know that everything is perfect just as it is, and that we are not separate or alone, but one with the fabric of existence.

We all know this on some level, and most get at least glimpses of it in moments which move us deeply, such as the birth of a child, or being with a loved one as they pass, or sometimes just simple moments of being in nature or watching a child play. We know that there is much more to this life than what we see with our eyes, or think with our minds.

All of the spiritual paths, at their essence, are attempting to lead us to that awareness. We can open and develop our crown chakra, and access this transcendent consciousness through meditation, prayer and contemplation. Opening to the love that runs through all of existence. Attending to the stillness and quiet within us. That is the doorway.

If you would like to read more in depth about the 7 major energy centers I recommend the book "Wheels of Life" by Anodea Judith. And as always, please feel free to share this information and leave comments and questions. Knowing the chakra system can give you more insight into yourself and empower you to bring more healing, meaning and joy to your life.
